White, Greer & Maggard Kids Triathlon at the YMCA

Lexington, Kentucky (June 8, 2022) – This year’s race will be held on Sunday, Aug. 21 at the C.M. Gatton Beaumont YMCA, located at 3251 Beaumont Centre Circle in Lexington. The race, for kids ages 6-14, will consist of three events – swimming, biking, and running and will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m.

“Since most kids enjoy swimming, biking and running, what better way to introduce a lifelong sport opportunity than a triathlon! The Kids Tri at the Y helps kids set realistic physical activity goals, provides training opportunities and allows kids to enjoy a fun race in front of friends and family", said Nikki Hartley, YMCA of Central Kentucky healthy living director and race director.

Registration must be completed in advance at ymcacky.org/events/kidstriathlon or in person at any YMCA of Central Kentucky location. Cost is $45 per child and will increase to $50 on July 5. The race will be capped at 175 participants and will fill up quickly.

Race segments, by age, include:

• 6 to 8-year-olds: Swim 50 yards; bike 1 mile; run ½ mile.
• 9 to 10-year-olds: Swim 100 yards; bike 2 miles; run 3/4 mile.
• 11 to 12-year-olds: Swim 200 yards; bike 3 miles; run 1 mile.
• 13 to 14-year-olds: Swim 200 yards; bike 3 miles; run 1 mile.

Liz Combs, mother of Will Combs (9) said, “My son is returning to complete his third kids’ triathlon at the Y because he loves the opportunity to accomplish a challenging goal and to feel like a ‘real’ athlete. The morning of the triathlon is one of our favorites of the entire year! Watching each child cross that finish line is uplifting and empowering. The pride and excitement show clearly through their huge smiles. It supports the idea that they can do anything they set their minds to.”
